Old Leftists Are Sexy

Jean-Luc Mélenchon rocks. From campaigns past, but the song is great:

  1. @Mack – No. But I am very good with Google Translate! I’ve spent a lot of time translating Jacques Brel songs, which requires a lot more work than you’d think.

With music it doesn’t too much matter. I don’t understand most English lyrics. Why do you ask?

  2. I just asked out of curiosity. You said the song was great, but I didn’t know if you meant musically or lyrically or both.

  3. @Mack – The article I got it from explained some of the words, but it is just that it’s a fun song. Even in English, I don’t hear most words until I know a song very well. Although some songs (Brel, Dylan) demand attention. I have a hard time listening to Brel without trying to figure out what he’s talking about. With this song, she could be singing of laundry detergent. I don’t care.

Here’s a song in French (by fake French band Les Sans Culottes) that I can understand. And it hardly matters. I can hardly stop myself from dancing…

  4. I know what you mean about not hearing the lyrics the first few times listening to a song, but I’ve noticed that I hear and understand them much more clearly – and quickly – now that I’m a little older. When I was a teenager, I couldn’t understand the lyrics in many songs without looking them up. But even if you look up the lyrics to a song, or you can hear it clearly, it’s still sometimes difficult to understand the meaning behind the song (if there is any), and it’s hard not to find your own meaning in the song.

And thanks for posting that song. It was pretty good. There are a few international bands that I listen to, but all their songs, for the most part, are in English.
