Snarky

I am of two thoughts about the word “snarky”, and apparently everyone else is too. First, it seems like it used to mean testy. Second, it seems like it is now mostly used to mean sarcastically pithy. Dictionary.com states that it is, “Testy or irritable; short.” And the Urban Dictionary says that it is, “A witty mannerism, personality, or behavior that is a combination of sarcasm and cynicism. Usually accepted as a complimentary term.”

Personally, I would not use the word “snarky” to describe something I approved of—at least publicly. I might use it to indicate a bit of hidden delight, however.
